How to Apply

How to Apply

All applications for our teacher training programmes (with the exception of the Assessment Only route) must be made online through UCAS Teacher Training. Online applications can be made at: www.ucas.com/apply/teacher-training.

Applications to train from September 2019 will open on 9th October 2018. You are able to apply to three initial teacher training providers simultaneously.

Once your form has been submitted, it remains with UCAS until both of your supporting referees have written and submitted their references. Only after this is completed will your application be sent to the initial teacher training providers. At this point, you application will be considered and you may be invited to an interview day.

Please visit the UCAS website for more detailed information on the application process.

Completing your application

Completing the application form

Please check your eligibility before applying. Full details can be found on our Courses page. The application form will ask you for the following information:

  • Personal details
  • Education and qualifications
  • Experience in schools (employment or volunteered)
  • Other employment history
  • Personal statement
  • The details of two referees

Your personal statement should explain why you think you want to be a teacher, why you are a strong candidate for initial teacher training and how your experiences to date support this.

If you are still at university, or graduated within the last five years, one of your referees must be someone from your university who can comment on your academic ability and potential. The other reference can come from work or someone who can comment on your character and potential to be a teacher. If you are applying for the salaried route (primary only), one reference must come from your current employer. If you are currently employed in a school, this should be the Headteacher. You must not use friends or family as referees.
